I've heard of this happening before. I remember a story a few years ago - a TA22 Celica sold for $18,000 in WA. Still had the original fuel in the tank from 1976.

Bloody amazing really - long time to sit on an investment.

I also heard of this sort of stuff happening. Where I lived on the northern beaches of Sydney , when I was growing up, This guy bought a genuine XY HO phase 3 Falcon. He locked it away in a garage, alarms etc, ran it every now and then, oil changes, but it never moved.

The garage was broken into, but alarms worked well and car was safe. He bricked in the door and windows ... but 2 years later, the HO was stolen with less than 60 miles on the clock. No one had even noticed it was gone, bricks were still all together, but the roof had been lifted off the garage, car craned out, and the roof replaced. No one saw or heard anything !!

1 thing I did know that happened, was that as the brakes were hardly ever used, that the brake cylinders leaked and seals had to be replaced every couple of years. It did turn up I believe 5 years later at Ford Australia, where it now lives.

What people will do...

l too have come across this sort of thing before, more than once, a couple of years ago a shop owner in Port told me about a brand new Brumby in Tamworth on blocks since new, the asking price was $7000. The story goes, a local farmer apon hearing that Subaru were about to discontinue the Brumby went out and bought 3 of them. He put 2 of them on blocks while he went about wearing out the third. Once this was done he registered a second ute which he is still driving, the third is the ute he offered for sale, still on blocks and never registered.
Many years ago while hunting motorcycles l came across a BSA A10 with less than 1000 miles on the clock and covered in chookshit and dust. l asked the farmer what it's story was and he told me this. the bike went into the shed running, the reason it did was because it had run low on oil and because he was unsure where to actually fill it decided parking it was his best option. l promptly bought the bike, cleaned it, filled it with oil, got it running again and sold it for alot more than l paid.
A friend of mine in Melbourne answered an add for an old Harley Davidson for sale in Mount Eliza. when he arrived he found the bike for sale was from 1916, totally complete and never ridden. the story the owner told him was the bike had been won by his grandfather in 1916 and not being a bike rider meant it went into the shed and was forgotten about until the mid eighties when my mate bought it, lucky bugger.
Strange but true!
