Hi all,

this may sound a bit crazy, but I could have sworn I saw a Volvo 240 (mid 80's) in melbourne that made the same sound as a wrx with a hot 'zorst.

There were 3-4 other cars + 4x4's pulling away from the lights at the time and were not in such numbers that could have confused the issue. Also, the intersection had only one road uphill which would have tourqued an engine in the manner I heard the cars revving at and the gear change points coincided with the ovlov.

Some dimensions simmilar to the cars in question are below. If anyone can get more accurate dim's for the vulva, bewdy! Ditti the RS.

Volvo 200 Series
1974–1993 (140-850)
Length: 4800 mm
Width: 1720 mm

Subaru Liberty B4
Dimensions:Length: 4605mm, width: 1695mm, height: 1415mm,
wheelbase: 2650mm, tracks: 1465mm/1465mm front/rear

Is it true, an all wheel drive apartment block?

It must have been your imagination no swedish taxi could be made to sound as tough as a Suby (even the My would sound tougher)

maybe the ovlov was running on four cylinders (instead of their normal five)?

I don't understand why the wheelbase and track of the two vehicles matter.

A WRX conversion to a Volvo would be possible, as anything with money is. Hell, I've seen a BB Hemi in a Datsun 1200 coupe (not kidding!). Feasibility is questionable though.

I would guess at the Volvo running on 4 as stated above.

I've seen volvos (and Mitsu Express van, mid mount) with 350ci Chev donks, so why not a cheap ass volvo shell over liberty (not wrx) running gear.

There is a ton of space for the conversion, and as for why, why not.

Not to everyones tastes, but you have to admit it would be v safe and reliable (if done well). The base volvo is still a very capable car (4wheel disc, indep suspension, good wt dist, safe as) if not a bit! underpowered.

The track is important for simplicity of conversion and I think only Audi had 5cyl donks back then (Audi Fox definatley). Volvo 240= series2/4cylinder/0fun??

By the by jono, what is an awd sound?

Liberty AWD, 4 wheels disc brakes , Independant suspension, also some fitted with boxer motor.

Last Volvo i played with i fitted a 350chev too and a T350 auto to it they do have heaps of room in the engine bay but i dont recall how wide they where low in the engine bay.
