turbo into EFI question.......AGAIN!

Post by grytvikken » Wed Sep 06, 2006 9:53 pm

ive got an EFI touring wagon and im interested in the idea of slipping a turbo motor into it. i would love the extra grunt but with the cost of fuel at the moment i really feel that i have to consider economy as well. the standard EFI returns around 8.5 litres per 100 k's on the highway, pretty good. would a turbo be as good on fuel if it was driven normally and not thrashed. also i know its an old question but i believe you can adapt the standard ecu to drive the turbo motor. how do you know if you have the right ecu? also where is it?

yes if turbo is driven normally good economy is obtainable. Both 3 plug ecu and 4 plug ecu will run the turbo motor.the 3 plug you ground a pin to tell it its a turbo.the 4 plug you use the dist, afm and throttle body off your n/a mpfi engine on the turbo motor.simple

grytvikken, all the above is EJ20's. He has technically answered your original intention of a turbo in EFI..........however you mean > EA82T <

I have a little advice, yes as stated, they will run of a N/A ECU, but I seriously dont recommend it, as I have found out myself.
To unlock the correct tune via ECU fuel and ignition mapping (4 plug) I strongly recommend a Turbo ECU. The trouble is the N/A ECU lean out too badly under boost. Get the engine wiring harness if possible as well, it will plug in to the body harness with correct pinout to ECU.
The ECU is located under the steering column, the N/A one has green code sticker on it, the Turbo has a brown sticker (4 plug), sorry I dont have the codes in front of me.

Surprisingly, the turbo setup is economical as well, given its driven normally.

Mate ignore Roger (sorry Rog) but its a cheep and very easy conversion there a re now a few of us (on this board) running NA ECU/dash n crap and it all works fine (after some fine tunning). That being said i have an RX dash and loom ecu ect if you are interested however they are are more expencive.

I think he may have violated the forum rules too. He hasn't used the template, and he's in the wrong forum.

Jaffa, you online now mate? Computer access at home?
Have you have done a air/fuel ratio meter check with a N/A ECU? You may be surprised what you find.

What you are saying Jaffa might be ok for a 3 plug ECU, I know from my experience that a 4 plug needs the correct ECU.

What i was says is just that... you experience has been shit house mine on the other hand as been exceptional. Major diff is i know who and how mine was done and you did not do yours so you could have brought someone elses issues. No reason to test it however next time we catch up feel free to (no offence ment either Rog).

Thats a good price - I paid double that from a wrecker :(

I think that these bits will be easier to get than the actual motor!
