Hi,

Just wondering if any one does much beach work ? I want to upgrade my air filter/ box. Can anyone suggest anything? Sick of suckin sand ! Also keen to purchase some 14" rims n' tyres if anyone has any for sale in the Newcastle area.
Any info would be greatly appreciated !

What kind of airbox are you currently running? The stock ones are usually regarded as the best as far as filtering ability goes. Usually people upgrade to some kind of POD but end up suffering more sand and dust in their intakes. This can be counteracted by the addition of a sock to go around the pod.

The alternative to the "sock" is get a decent offroad pod filter like a Unifilter or FinerFilter. These are designed for harsh intake conditions, but not water, as mounting position needs to be factored in here.
Unifilter make replacement filters for stock air boxes and would be a considerable improvement on the original one.

For the carb models, I remember decades ago talking about fitting a stocking over the end of the metal protrusion where the air comes into the air filter box.
Then refitting the rest of the air intake.
Not sure how effective or not it would be though.

I've never done any beach work but i would have thought that the factory under-bumper intake would not be prone to sucking sand unless your behind another car...

Any thoughts on this?

el freddo i think sand gets in everywhere no matter what kind of intake filter u get, i still found a bit in my stock box.
the pod and filter sock sounds like a good idea tho, where do ya get them from?

Thanks Guys! I think I'm gunna stick with the stock intake after reading your reply's. As suggested maybe a sock or stocking will be the go. I found disconnecting the rubber intake pipe helped stop some sand, but it still gets in there !
