Gen III H6 Outback
When the time comes to replace the liberty (in next 6 months hopefully) I want to get a H6 Outback. All the ones I have seen have had the cream leather interior - this is hardly conducive to keeping clean (or is it?) so was wondering if cream was an option, or standard?
Anyone know if the current H6 liberty (Gen IV) is also the EZ30? If it is, how do Subaru get an extra 30kw from it over the Gen III?

All the G3 H6's I have seen have had leather.
G3 EZ30 isn't very impressive but is super smooth. G4 has all new heads with variable cam timing and lift and 3 exhaust ports per head instead of one single in G3. G3 could definitely benefit from an exhaust system, it has a very strange setup on it that looks as though noise and harmonic reduction was it's only design requirement.
Be aware that an EZ30 is not a simple engine to work on, any problems that a high km engine may develop are not going to be cheap to fix. For example, the water pump lives inside the cam chain case and is driven of the LH chain, it would be a huge job to replace the pump.

Hey Al, THanks for that...
Have all the ones you've seen had cream leather?
As for the water pump, is that the same setup as the EJ? If they are chain driven does that mean the chain runs through an oil bath??
I've never had a chain driven engine - don't know how they work
When you say it only has one exhaust port, you mean they are 3 valves per cylinder not 4?

Found this pic of the underside of the EZ30 if anyone is interested
came from http://linaracing.com/impreza-h6-conversion-faq.cfm
Interesting that subaru would go backwards on the head design of even the ER27 and put a single exhaust port for 3 cylinders on the EZ30...

I know this is going to sound bad.... but....
I was driving one of the work magna's around the other day and I know I have made public before how much I hate magnas, but you can't help but love the grunt...
I don't want the hassle of modifying the engine or car to get said grunt, so figured the 6 was a not bad idea...
Still throwing a couple of options around - part of this included selling of the monstertruck and buying a first gen outback just for tooling about in, or keeping the L and getting a lot newer outback or lib wagon for michelle to drive - and abuse the L...
Peejay - dunno what you are talking about with stingy NSW rego laws - I reckon they are pretty good. Everything I have done to my car is cool with them and requires no certification... In Qld, I would have needed a blue plate...
