Stress test the Suby

Post by AndrewT » Sun Aug 06, 2006 11:46 pm

Today I towed a ~1000kilo car trailer 91kms down to Mandurah.
Then I towed it all the way back up north another 91kms with a car ontop of it - roughly 2000kilos.

Suby didn't miss a beat. Held 5th most of the way, only had to grab 4th a couple of times on some of the long inclines at the bottom end of the freeway on the way back. Survived fine and I havn't even mounted the second thermo fan yet.
So much for the legal L series GVM :p

Oh btw, I now own an `86 RX Turbo.

Roger, I only want a few bits from it myself so virtually all the other bits will be up for grabs soon enough. Although I am toying with the crazy idea of actually keeping it as a complete car...I'll most likely come to my senses soon!

At a guess you probably want the bits I need.
Cant send PM, your inbox is full.

Andrew, The bits off the RX, you probably want what I was after:
Rear Disk Brakes
Rear LSD
Shocks front and rear

Did you get the Turbo engine?

Cheers, Roger

Andrew,

I think that genuine RX's are becoming rarer and rarer - so many of them being canibalised for projects and parts for existing converted cars / other RXs.

Please consider keeping it whole and preserving a (future?) collectable.

That's my 2 cents worth, anyway.

If it's not genuine, start dismantling!
Willie.

The temp did sit abit higher than normal but was still fine.

Co-incidentaly...unfortunately now a couple of days later I suspect the water pump is failing!

Willie, yeah it is a genuine RX. I spose it would be a shame to part it out (although its not exactly a classic).
Never fear....if I can raise the cash and the time and the support I have crazy ideas about cutting my teeth in rally racing.
