Hey everyone,
I'm borrowing my sister's Liberty at the moment. This is due to her being in intensive care, she's got Guillain-Barre syndrome. Basically that means her immune system has been having a bit of a fight with her nervous system. It has been a pretty rough couple of weeks lately, she's been through a helluva lot of pain and most of her body is still paralysed. She's had a tracheotomy and is on a ventilator, she can't breathe for herself. In the next few weeks she will get a lot better, this is how Guillain-Barre works apparently.
So in the meantime I have borrowed (with her permission of course) her 1993 AWD auto Rallye. I am cleaning it up for her and giving it some long overdue mechanical attention.

I thought I'd post two pictures of it up here to show everyone. I've fitted the mags I had sitting aside for my coupe's intended 5 stud brake swap, now I'm thinking of giving them to her when I give back her car. The downside is that tyres will cost a heap more and she likes her kerbies.

I hope that she improves very soon , also you make sure you look after that lovely Subi .

strangely, i saw that same illness on the TV show"house" the other week.
So i googled it and had a long read ...BUGGER sums it up in one word.
The mags look good on the Rallye and im sure it will be a good bit of medicine
for when your sis gets out.

Sorry to hear about your sister, I had it when I was a youngster, spent about 3 months in hospital before slowly but surely I started to move again -- unfortunately there's not a lot the docs can do for you except keep your organs filled with oxygen, once your immune system calms down and lets your nerves recover, things start to come right. The weird thing is that your brain has to figure out which nerve does what and then you've got to re-learn your balance when you start wlking again.

Good news is that for most, full recovery is a matter of time; the only thing most people have to show afterwards is that they walk with a gait. I hope all goes well for her and that she's up and about soon. In the meantime, look after the Lib!

Sounds like a hideous and scary illness, good luck to her, hope she gets better soon.

Thanks heaps guys. There's not much anyone can really do for her at the moment except keep visiting her and keep her entertained (she watches DVD's when she's awake). Thats the main reason I've borrowed her car, its something I can do for her even if it won't help her in the short term.
Subgiraffe is right, most people fully recover from this illness, only a few suffer long term effects. Sorry to hear that you had to endure this too mate! I can't begin to imagine how it feels but again the reassurance is there that its relatively short term. The doctors have said she will need to learn to walk again though.

tim if you decide to give her the rims you should lower her car for her as well....

Yeah Tim, hope she gets on top of it. You are a good bro to her as she will appreciate this more than anything, good on ya.

The very least you could do is put an EJ20G in her Lib........only joking!

Some good news at last, in between working on my cars last night I went in and saw her. She's in the general ward now, unfortunately this means the level of nursing care has dropped quite a bit but at least she's well enough to be there. She's breathing for herself now and can move a lot of her muscles, she'll still need rehab eventually though to get back her cooordination. But its a huge improvement she's had since the weekend.

Your sister will be back on her feet in no time.

Good news there Tim that she is going well!

Thought I'd post an update, theres some good news and some bad news. Good news is she's making a speedy recovery, she has regained a fair bit of upper body movement but she's still a long way away from walking. She's eating solid foods, she's talking and she's able to SMS people on her phone.

Bad news is her Liberty decided to blow a head gasket tonight. It looks like I'll be doing an EJ22 engine swap in the next week or two, this means my EJ20G conversion is going to be further put on hold.

Glad to hear Jess' progress there, very encouraging.
Car wise - Aw Tim that's very unlucky! I'll try and put some spanner-assistance time aside for you Prolly next weekend. Have your sourced a replacement motor yet? I might have a lead or two...Otherwise mabey it's worth considering taking the offending head off and replacing the gasket?
