DISASTER!

I was respraying the brumby wheels white this arfternoon, and it fried everything down to the primer from the last coat! $25 later....

I'm peeling the paint off like a sticker.
I'm REALLY pissed off.

All i did with mine was hose them down and clean them with a cloth. Bought a can of silver metallic spray paint from Big W and they look brand new, no flaking or anything.

Did you buy heat-proof paint? Wheels get hot.

This reminds me of my mate with the "racing Civic" back in the day. Painted his calipers red, they were back to metal in about 2 minutes...

Haha, I painted my calipers red before using so called "Caliper and Drum Brake paint"
I hope it sticks.

Sounds like you have used enamel paint. If you have anything else like 2-pac or acrylic underneath it will react very badly.
(I think I've got that round the right way, either way it's because of a chemical reaction between incorrect topcoat and undercoat).

As Andrew said i think you put some Acrylic over some enamel and its fired up good and proper.

Killrust white works well for me . Hand painted my white sunraysias with this stuff and it shows no sign of coming what so ever.

I did give the wheels a good cleaning with a drill powered wire brush and brushed a antirust/rust converter on first though.

No its doesnt look like a pristine job but i figured as i play in the salt and sand a couple of thick coats of paint isnt going to hurt.

So far so good.

Now I not having a go at your workmanship here or anything however it may not be the paint, it could be the prep work before you started. It may also be the paint, oh and the wether conditions that you painted and dried them in... just qa few thoughts that sis not seem to be covered yet.

It was a dry, sunny day, I cleaned the previous coat, which was Acrylic, with Septone Wax and Grease remover, then sprayed it with Killrust Primer then applied the topcoat. I did this on the third wheel too, although it only bubbled a little bit around the edges. Strange.

paint distributors (not always the shop) are good for info, send a picture to 'em

powdercoat - good idea for next time

I used a degreaser on my cheap painted wheels - might as well been paint stripper !

i bet you're the type of guy who faints at the sight of their own blood!!

oh, by the way:

sandblast/powdercoat for teh win.
or, if you're a tightarse, then keep spraying them with something that doesn't peel. no disaster here!!

Check the Killrust paint, i'm sure you will find it's an enamel.
