EA82T bent water hose alternative found...

Post by steptoe » Tue Jul 11, 2006 10:57 pm

Subaru have quoted $75 for the water hose under the turbo that has a right angle bend in it, about 180mm long plus the bend, with heat guard stuff on it

it is 1/2 inch if Japan ever really used an inch ruler inside diameter

in (not on the roll ) moulded hose talk half inch is available as 12mm and 13mm

After cruising the entire mackay rubber catalogue I have come up with a few affordable alternatives, neither come with heat guard

CH 3226 heater hose for Landcruiser rear heater about $15
13 x 440 with an elbow

CH 1585 heater hose for Datto 120Y about $8.50
12 x 300 with an elbow

ordered both from Sydney to see which is better

all I need now is an engine to rebuild,(cough, cough)

Yeah they arent cheap, when they blow i use it as the best time to reroute the hose above and out of the way of the turbo

suggestion: replace with copper pipe ? anyone do that?
might still need to wrap it tho with that thermotec stuff.

the only reason against the copper pipe trick is that you are doubling the number of clamps and places to spring a leak

reason against re routing was not sure if I'd upset air bubble/pocket theory water flowing ????

update : the datto hose is a bit too short, which should mean the landcruiser hose on back order should do the trick !

l replaced mine with a heater hose bought from supercheap, it had a 90deg bend but was longer so l shortened it to the correct size & it did the trick.
It's not insulated, but neither was the hose l replaced, (supposedly standard), so time will tell as the old hose was undamaged but replaced with all the others when l fitted the motor.
