Mate with a wrecked Impreza

A friend of mine has managed to somehow own a statutary written-off MY00 RX Impreza wagon.
Both airbags are blown; it took a hard hit to the front-right corner, causing damage to the radiator, radiator support and timing covers. In addition the front rails are way out of alignment. Front suspension appears salvagable.
Now, what we wanna know is . . . what can we do with it to make a buck? I'm leaning toward parting it out, selling off all the good gear to someone doing a conversion (toyed with the idea of transplanting the lot into my GLf for about 5 minutes).
My friend has his heart set on buying a front cut minus engine and gearbox and welding it in. This is not beyond our collective skills, but is it more work than it's worth? We're both overcommited as it is, but we do have a hoist and a full fabrication engineering shop at our disposal.
So what are your opinions? What would you do in this situation and why? How much will it cost, how much could we get?
