Remove Roller bearing from Brumby Pinion shaft

Post by Gazza01 » Thu Dec 15, 2016 6:15 pm

I have rattling pinion bearing on one of my front Brumby pinion shafts. I need a way to remove the bad bearing without pulling down the gearbox if possible. Any ideas out there. Nothing on YOUTUBE on this one

There's only one pinion shaft on the front of a brumby and you *must* pull the box apart to get to it.

If you're talking about the diff bearing then unless you can get something behind the bearing to pull it off with, then you'll have to pull the box down to get to the bearing.

Either swap the box or strip it down.

Yes its the left diff bearing thats really loose its a bit hard getting anything behind it. I have Jimy Slim bearing extractor it would fit behind the inner bearing race that fits onto pinion shaft if I could break/remove up the outer race and bearings. Got work out way without doing damage. Might have to make up something. Once u remove the outer bearing cone u only have approx 4 mm gap at present.

If you're thinking of smashing up the bearing you risk leaving bits of metal in the gearbox on re-assembly.

Here's a pic of what you're dealing with without the casing in the way:

I still say it's swap the box or split it to do this properly without the risk of leaving metal pieces floating around in the gearbox once you're done.

Yes looks more like what I'll have to do.
