Removing my Brumby Gearbox

Got replace my gearbox old one is all rattly front, pinion shaft bearings and they bloody rattle. Thought was the CV shafts first but they OK the pinion shafts are just so loose bearing s are all loose. Got outer bearins but got get inner but in meantime have a gearbox in damaged Brumby thats OK so that will go in BUT how herd/easy is to drop out the gearbox. See the exhaust may have to be removed together with Stabilizer bar , Starter. Tail shaft. Got that plate that holds rear box. Cant see any directions in my manuals but will have a go. Anyone out there who can give me any further info.

Yes Toonga got that Thanks. I bought a Jimy Slim bearing extractor I toying with idea of removing the out race of that front pinion bearing and pulling the rest out with the narrow extractor. I can only see one pinion bearing each side then heating new bearing up to 200 degrees and dropping in. Could prove tricky but don't fancy removing the gear box.

Seriously, everything you just said sounds waaaay more complicated and painful than removing the gearbox :rolleyes: You might get halfway through that plan and realize you can't do it and end up taking the box out anyway. If it was me, I'd take the gearbox out.

With the replacement gearbox in the damaged brumby, pull the engine and box out together.

In your brumby drop the box only if you don't want to pull the engine. It's a bit of messing around and you need good jack stands, the vehicle stabilised for safety and quite a bit of height to get the box out from under the vehicle.

Some sort of frame made to hold the gearbox on a jack can make things easier. They're a "lite" gearbox by comparison to others out there, but an unbalanced one when your lying near/partially under/beside it can still inflict some damage and pain. So take it easy if you're doing it this way for the first time.
