Quick Brumby at the Winter Nationals

Post by yarney » Sat Jun 10, 2006 10:22 am

I was at Willowbank last night for the winter nationals, saw this brumby on the start line
and went down to see it after the race. The driver's name is Nathan Townsend. I spoke to his
dad and he told me the car came from a farm. It was white and had a canope on it when he
first bought it - big change now! He told me it's got a wrx ea20 engine with liberty rebuilt
box, which means it'a an all wheel drive drag car with a brumby back end. He ran a 10.04 1/4 mile,
133 mph also said at 60 feet he still had wheel spin so he had to drop the tyre pressure to 10lb
as you can see on one of the pics. He's got an esky in the back with ice in it to keep the fuel
cold.

That look like a rather nice custom water/air intercooler.
Much better than a laggy frontmount

That Vortex is Neil Hendry's, it's got a full chassis and a Hemi in it.

Still a glorious achievement in physics and engineering to fit a hemi in a vortex.

I think about 40% of the engine's hanging out of the bonnet. I'm not so sure he still races it, I think he might have a Ford ute now.
