L series Wagon with Full Time 4WD, Handling??

Just wondering if you guys with full time boxes fitted could tell me how an L wagon handles with one in, on the road. Does it under-steer when pushed? How much? Does it over-steer at all? Be nice if it did.

I've got a full time box and I'm not sure if I want it in my road car or not, it's part time at the moment.

Is there any way to mod/change a centre diff in one of these boxes to give it a rear bias?

Any one ever tried dropping out the front drive shafts on a part time, and running an L as RWD?

Thanks

it will plow understeer stock. swap the rear sawy bar (or add one) and the problem then is oversteer to a point. play with tyre pressures also. only bias you can add to is is locking it (50:50) other than that it 65:35.

Thanks Chris, How is the front bias achieved? Is it possible to flip it to the back?

Yeah I thought about different diff ratios front to rear, but I don't know what if any effect this will have on the centre diff?

With the L AWD box with an LSD and a turbo EA they will understeer when pushed hard

Me and my brother went for a spin in our RXs when we first got them. Mine has as AWD with no LSD, his was part-time 4WD with a very good LSD. Mine understeered like crazy, but his was actually ok.

in opinion it will probably destroy it.

playing with suspension and tyre pressures was how I did it. no real way to do bias on it (unless you want to swap a STI driveline in with DCCD)my new wagon is auto so I have to learn it all again. :)

I had an RX with AWD, so LSD and rear swaybar. Had enough power to spin a front inside tyre through corners. Enough power to spin the rears by pulling the handbrake on and dumping the clutch. Only difference the awd made to handling was rather than spinning hard enough to make smoke on tight corners it would just spin a little - I guess it was quicker in that respect. L series handle shit anyway.

Whack it in, even marginally better is better, they just bolt in with minor mods to the selector (cut rotate and weld). Get some AC Vacuum solenoids to operate the diff-lock.

Yes, anything is possible. The mechanical centre gives infinite variation between front and rear. You should be able to shim it to bias the rear. Though it'll be noisy and wear fast.

Thanks
I haven't but others have. No advantage is to be gained in doing it.

Listen to what Chris has to say, he knows.
