long time ago I asked about factory 5 speed in EA81 powered MY, as was told by subie mechanic that they did exist, no one here knew for certain.
Now I get another subie nut tell me that when L series were new, the MY touring wagon with raised roof were still produced for some time( abit like Brumby going to '92 I suppose) and that is was these that got a five speed manual box. Wonder if it was simply just the same box like some of us have jammed into MY/MV vehicles ??
The MY EA81 factory 5 speed 4WD rumour arises...SORTED !!

It's definitely a rare item, but I can honestly say it's in existence.
Jonno on this side of the country (AUSubaru nick "jonno") has one in his MY sedan and one spare. From what I can gather it is basically the same as a dual range 4 speed except it has a 5th gear. Not sure if the top ratio is any greater, most likely its ratios are spread like the L series 5 speed.
No idea what vehicles they came from, but they're certainly not common.
