Advice on Air Con compressor in L series Touring Wagon

Hi there,

As the title says, I need some advice on what to do about my air con compressor please. I had the system re-gassed but the guy doing it said my compressor was knackered and needed replacing. He also said they could be serviced but that he would have to remove it and send it to Japan, which would cost somewhere around $200 and would obviously take some time.

Has anyone else had experience with these compressors? Is there a cheaper/quicker alternative? I don't need the air con much but when it's 44C here in Perth it's bloody *hot*.

Any advice would be appreciated, thanks.

Cheers,

Wrxpc

Wow dude $200 is pretty good for a A/C service.

Im getting my vortex checked/gassed today, company in Bibra lake. They quoted me $150 for a system pressure test and regas, and if there is a problem and I dont want them to fix it, it will cost me $55 for the check if anyone around the area is thinking about getting it done.

Wrxpc, your fastest and best bet would be to get a new model aircon compressor,

or even something from a completely different car and fab up some brackets to mount it. Thats what I plan to do with my wagon.

I've got a good second hand compressor. Postage would be pricey though

$200 was to have the compressor sent to Japan to be serviced - removing/regassing/refitting (and I assume, postage) was all on top of this.

Subydoug, any ideas on what other models might fit? Is there a difference in the pipe/connector size that I would have to take into account?

timmo, thanks, as you say though postage would be pricey but i'll keep it in mind.

Unfortunately, the L.Series had so many different models of A/C kits fitted to them. I'd grab a second quote from another A/C business.

I have a few A/C compressors here in WA. Can you post up a pic of your one?
