Found these guys from Czechoslovakia who have built an incredible L-series Touring Wagon and raced it successfully in multiple intercontinental rallies. I think we'd all love to do something like this.

Looks like they're running a 2" lift kit, rally tyres on 15" Peugeot rims, WRX or STi engine with a dual-range EJ box, judging by the shifter.

I've been following this team for quite a while, absolutely love that car (mine WILL be like it one day!!)
Haven't been able to find tech specs on what's been done to it...if you find some, put them up!
