I notice the engine will rev up to 1700-2000rpm when first started cold. It seems the Aux Air Valve will govern this, then settle back as it warms.

Can I lower the revs a bit somehow, as it seems too high for a warm up and is a bit noisy off the pipe in the morning? Prefer 1200-1400rpm or so.

Mate she has been THAT cold lately i would not worry about it for now... ours is up as well recently and i have noticed that she is a little highter (about 1700rpm) with the really cold mornings.

My 2c is leave it alone, alternatively, a cheat way is after about 60 seconds just give the throtle a small buzz and she will come down a bit.

At least it's not idling too low.....that requires an entire new engine!

After start idle control is a function of the idle screw and the fuel map,
in this case after start enrichment and water temp fuel maps.
Stock ecu, you can do nothing, except as Jaffa suggests - a bit of a rev....

mines the same ay about 1700 rpm, it even revs itself at the lights to get warm!
but then when warm only comes down to like 1200. meh.

Mine does the same. When i start it on cold mornings the rpm starts at 1800 and keeps on going up towards 3000 slowly after it had been going for about 5 minutes. The brumby also wont idle when its cold even after it has been warmed up, it just slows down below 700rpm then stops. I dont have the heater hose on though.

I was thinking of restricting the intake of one of the hoses on the AAV with an internal sleeve or such, just to taper the revs a little.
I suppose its a small thing and could put up with like it is.

on ea82 the run away idle may be caused by that air valve that sits on top of the water intake. It also has a small electrical heater in it.
It gets stuck.
It can be taken off and dismantled for cleaning, lube it and then it should be right for another year at least.

Disconnect your coil/ecu/etc which ever fuse 5 minutes before you start you car, and leave the key on..this will 1/ protect your coil from damage due to the key being left on and 2/ heat the valve up so it wont rev up when you start it.
or 3/ pour a jug of hot water on the thermostat housing..i doubt this would do to much to help though, but give some false hope. my ea 82t has not experienced any drama and it was 0C last night....there all different though..

Yes fred_sub, I did clean it before. It needed it too, but has made no real difference. It does settle after a few mins. once is starts to warm.
