Power chip

Has anyone on here tried a power chip in their car? Looking on a site which has four different chips starting at bronze, silver, gold and gold98. The gold power chips are $890 but they state you give you 19 kws and an extra 28nm torque. This is for a turbo EA82 engine 1986-89. I want to know if people think its worth the coin.

For an EA82T motor, I have my doubts.
Got a link to the website? I call BS

I know with the Foz GT & XT, you can get a "tune" done. Not exactly sure of the details, but you can get an increase in HP/torque, better fuel economy & better safety, all by having the ECU mapped more accurately. There's lots of tuners around to do this, best way is done on a dyno but its not cheap. Beware of e-tunes, have heard of many issues. No way can it be done as well from a download over the net than by a guy standing there with his laptop plugged in dynoing your car

Having a read of that document, it only advances your ignition timing, you could do that yourself by rotating the distributor by a few degrees

I personally wouldn't bother with a power chip, I believe these are really a thing of the '80s, although you see them for diesels now a days.
AFAIK a power chip is an off the shelf application and as previously said, is not the best option as it's not truly custom to your setup.
For that price you're about halfway to an EJ setup if you know what you're doing. Or roughly a quarter of the way to an EJ turbo setup...
Cheers

We could send Canny on a trip down memory lane for one of us - dredge up the thread on the EA82T up in Mt Isa ? Forgies, 20 psi boost, nitrous - didn't get off the engine dyno in a usable condition after turning out 400 dyno HP !!

I have an old AMD athlon motherboard you can have for a 3rd of the price of a powerchip and I'm pretty sure you would get exactly the same benefits from it
Save your money and buy an unregistered liberty or Turbo model of some sort and put all of the bits you want into your vortex.
Or find out if you can get a unichip piggyback computer for your vortex .

Wow...after reading all that I'd be running away from PowerChip...fast! How amazingly childish & unprofessional
Same goes for Superchip & PowerFlash...

I see one problem in that this power chip SUB0003 is for Vortex turbo 86 -89.
My 4/86 made Vortex had one ECU same as my 9/85 made GLTA EA82T. These 3 plug ECU's have normal old fashioned advance mechanisms and a vacuum advance/boost retard cannister. I have trouble seeing a chip having any control over it!
Then the Vortex turbo of 4/87 has a different ECU with 4 plugs.
A Vortex made after 6/87 has a different 4 plug ECU again.
I'd be more confident if the chip improver listed the ECU that their product was made for
