Beware L Series owners as there is a bad batch of 341216 KYB rear shocks around, it seems to be just a bad batch produced in 2006 and the shocks are 20mm shorter than the regular batch, this makes the shocks useless.

Below are some sample photos of the difference in the shocks.

Now the Manufacture defects have been acknowledged by KYB Australia based in Melbourne and they are aware that this batch has been a 2006 production fault, my shocks were bought on Ebay (brandsonly) where I received open boxes which I thought strange but not too concerned, now you might be thinking fake Chinese copy (but wait), after the fault was detected by Paul (RSR555) at his Rockingham workshop he contacted Veales and ordered a new set and surprise there was one good shock and one bad batch shock sent, both myself and Veales rang KYB and they confirmed this as a faulty batch.

So now be aware the faulty batch number is CB6165

THats a big difference in the length of the shaft from where the spring perch / cap sits. I take it that it makes it impossible to use the standard subaru mount rubbers.

It looks alot like a standard MX5 front shock.

Fun and games! I bet KYB are pissed with this mistake. Maybe it's a labelling issue as Toonga has mentioned they look like another shock (above).

Glad you got yours sorted in the end - even better that KYB are open about it!

Interesting that stock from about 8 years ago is now on the shelf!

Cheers

I got some rear shocks for the Brumby that were a bit short, halving the 20mm bump stop gap! $8 ea from the US, or $100 here but the right fit, different brand .

These shocks had the same part number on them and I too questioned why they are still around after 8 years but KYBs reason because they didn't know who had them on their shelves.. load of male cow crap if you ask me
