I bought a set of 17" gen 2 GTB alloys that have been powdercoated gold with the intention on putting them on my red Outback. When I got them and put them up against the Outback I realised they clashed with the silver lower body cladding. If the whole car was red I wouldnt have an issue.



A quick session with photoshop shows how they might look


I think they would be better if they were silver


What should I do????

If I could find somebody with a set of similar alloys who would swap them for a set of factory coloured ones I would.

My other 3 options are to .....
1. Strip them with acetone and clearcoat over the alloy
2. Rough up the powdercoating and paint over it with some 2-pack colour of my choice
3. Have them re-powdercoated in a more suitable colour

Im looking for the most cost effective option as this is just my daily driver

What are your thoughts????

my brother did his xr6 rims. It looked like crap so he peeled it off .

The gold cladding looks awesome against a red body. You can offset the cost of painting the cladding against the cost of stripping/painting the wheels. I believe you can get spray can paint for plastic so wont be too expensive
