Advice on Gen4 Outback

Post by syoutback » Tue May 21, 2013 4:38 am

Hi All,

I've just purchased a 2nd hand 2004 (Gen4), 3.0R Premium Pack Outback. Apologies in advance if my question has been posed before, but would be very appreciative of any advice people can share with me.

The car has a 95% (one service absent) completed log book and 132k on the clock, has had had least 2 owners. Seems to have been largely serviced by Subaru.

Has a few minor issues I'm discovering are typical of the Outbacks - digital clock/trip meter not working and key FOB working intermittently. Seems to be fine in all other regards.

Only had the car a few days, but would like to know what keys things I should be on the look-out for in terms of:
* Any known issues? Important maintenance @ 132k mark?
* Whats the best way to deal with the electronic stuff I've mentioned without putting Subaru dealers children thru college?
* Best oil for the 6 cylinder engine?

I've heard and observed on the net that the 3.0R and Outbacks in general are pretty reliable. I'm very particular about treating my cars right, so I'm happy to take on some pointers if people are willing to share!

Cheers.
