Anyone play with FWD ?

Post by steptoe » Sat Apr 20, 2013 2:40 pm

It does seem this forum is 4WD and AWD dedicated and from time to time a FWDer pops up with the odd problem to solve.

In stripping down my FWD wreck I found a brand new clutch likely installed about 2002, Excedy with white writing still on friction plate and thought was gonna be hard to find a FWDer willing to buy a little 200mm clutch to suit EA81/ EA82 worth 100 peanuts or so....but then, looking at it looked more like...... ARR YEAH !! 225mm 4WD clutch and machined flywheel - a timely find I can tell ya :) :)

Now, when it comes to pulling the disc brake rear off I am wondering how small a market I have for MY or L FWD sedans badly in need of a disc rear ???

Not for a 2wd set which is what Steptoe is talking about!

FWD with rear discs means you are stripping down a Vortex ?

Nice find on the parts Jonno.. It's like a second xmas just for you :D

Yep FWD Turbo Vortex, dumped to the shtouse on blue springs (Lovells?) 3" zaust suit FWD but I want the cat dump pipe, got a halo for sunroof repair. Was already a parts bitch before I got it, partly trashed, water in the exhaust due to bonnet vent turned drain right into turbo up pipe with missing turbo. Rego last expired 12 years ago.Hoarding more little bits, some already allocated to a swapper

B00sting is just trying to set a market price for any disc brake rear end :) Can almost see myself buying a FWD just so I can have a 4WDisced one :)

I've got a FWD flywheel (from a vortex), machined and lightened by approx 1.8Kg with new spiggot bearing. I did all this then realised it was bloody useless for a AWD conversion, D'oh!

Lesson learnt :o
