Looking to change the pads on my vortex, I know there aren't many options available for the L/XT series, but has anyone got advice on whats a nice, sticky pad?
Im not vain, I'll take stopping over clean wheels...
I dont know much about pads and have always used whatever I had lying around in spare calipers, so this time I may treat my right foot to something good.

Any pads with very little metal compound are best but don't go racing with them too much and they will 'fade' fairly quickly. I prefer to have dirty wheels too, at least I know the brakes are doing their job. Soft pads and hard discs FTW.

I agree Paul, having 4 disc's on the L with 27x8.5 wheels, the Bendix pads are to hard and do not work well until they get hot, which is useless if you suddenly want to stop in a hurry.
The "cheaper" pads stop much better as they are softer = dirty wheels, but do overheat with lots of work.
You have to buy pads to suit you're driving style.

Anybody tried the EBC Green Stuff? I heard good things about those years ago from a guy that had an EJ20T brumby.

bitiest ever are in my L now ! Bendix, all blue box with green stripe (likely to indicate asbestos free) no other claim, no 'level' of performance indication, no chance of finding them again - were a ten or 12 buck set from rock. So bitey I had to relearn to brake so not to have pople rear end me! Could be interesting when I fit same in rears if same compound not up front!

Ferodo top of the range. Can't remember the part number but they cost me about $130.

I had them in my wagon running EJ20G with 29inch tyres and it actually stopped the car remarkably well. (had new rotors as well) they were very dusty though.

I was looking into EBC greens a few weeks ago and came across this thread, which is worth reading if you've heard bad reviews about the green stuff pads as they changed significantly (for the better) in 2010 according to this. http://bbs.scoobynet.com/scoobynet-gene ... sions.html

A few months ago I re did my brakes.
Braided lines
New discs
New bendix gct pads (recommended by the brake shop specialist, they have a magnesium stripe in them)
Rear the drums and old shoes got matched.

All in all they are pretty bitey and have great feel. Can't comment on dust as I havnt driven the car enough. (Really need to sort out these few little issues and get driving.

Not really sure why the HP of the engine is relevant, brake pads are about braking not accelerating!

They would still have a part no on them?

Best thing I did to my brakes too - braided lines made a HUGE difference! New rotors and pads helped quite a bit too. I'm on some cheapo brake pads that are a bit dusty but I must admit that even with the 27's my L brakes better than it ever has.

But I watch my braking on long/steep descents!

Why do braided lines help?

Dunno about braided lines being any better, but can add that when I fitted up new hoses to replace 42 year old ones I got better pedal on a system already just been bled and in top shape. Maybe braided give better pedal ?

They don't expand like rubber lines do when you press hard on the pedal, giving you a much better 'feel' of the braking

Are these better than OEM?

priced genuine replacements yet from Subaru ? To compare the above cerebro ?
