In my 1983 owners manual it shows two dash board clusters. One is like mine with the telltale graphic monitor for 4wd etc.
The other has tachometer, voltmeter, oil pressure gauge.......did these come into Australia????
Want more instrumentation, now that carbs have been reco'ed and we are running very sweetly indeed.

Hi there Jono. Yes ....throttle shafts AND air screw up near emulsion tube on one carby missing, tangs on floats not allowing fuel to flow in at required rate, bit of incorrectly plumbed vacuum.....
Now back with the electronic dizzy and running very smoothly and very fast. Want to know the revs when I'm still climbing in 2nd at about 90km/h.
Very knowledgeable and approachable guy at The Carby Shop in Wantirna, Melbourne, for anyone who needs quality carby work.

Well done !! It fits into an MY, no problems? Did it have a tacho as well?
There wouldn't be too many of them around I bet !!

I use an aural tach - been faithful so far - and they are wireless.

that is good to hear the carbies are sorted, really good actually

do u mean on of these
out of an my leonie glf5 2wd sedan
can be put into a wagon or brumby but u need to swap the whole dash and dashboard wireing loom as the plugs are differant to the back of the cluster
and the dash has no 4wd or lo range lights in the cluster
unless it came out of an 83 my wagon

I was after the simplest "old cluster out", "new cluster in" procedure. Doing the complete dashboard sounds like a nightmare job. Think I will be getting a tacho to stick on the dashboard.
Going bush this weekend,Jono, with my Magellan GPS. Will report back on speedo accuracy next week

aww, not on the dash. You've got some real rice power under the bonnet now, surely that entitles you to stick a multitude of gauges on the plenum grille just outside the windscreen :P

A 2" tacho fits nicely where the clock is normally in the standard cluster, I did this before fitting the 'GLF' dash, little bit more work than simply bolting a tacho to the dash but well worth it imho.
subaru must have though this looked ok as well, can grab pics of my custom effort and the stock one as well.
The GLF clusters arnt to hard to come by, its the dash 'boards' that are always ratty
and the dash has no 4wd or lo range lights in the cluster
unless it came out of an 83 my wagon
82 touring wagon, cept the 4wd light is acting as the centre diff lock light

Thanks for all the input fellas. The GLF dashboard is the one from the L series as pictured earlier in the posts; am I right.
Yes MY-STI, I wouldn't mind seeing pics of your "before and after" clusters. (I'm talking dash boards here....) Ive got another MY cluster that I could practice with; I would like to keep the one I've got now with over 500,000 km on it.
Cant help smiling to myself as I read yours, Jono. I could have a scoop in the bonnet to fit an original Suby twin carb air cleaner box, (but not the correct one; it sits too high) and a pod of instruments on the plenum !! Ha Ha Ha !!!
I like to keep it as a sleeper.....but then a tacho on the dash....... mmmmm

no the dash in the picture is out of an my
and deprnding on the year of the car and dash it can be as easy as just pluging in the loom.

got some bad news for you in installing that dash you got from ebay. firstly you need to get the correct dash mold as it is different from the stabndard dash and secondly the oil pressure gauge needs the correct type of sender to make it work as iv'e got the same dash in the brumby and subaru quoted me $124 bucks for one. guess what,,,,,,,, my gauge still does'nt work
