Problems and mods

Hi. I'm new here. From Lake Macquarie nsw and own a 96 impreza rx. Not wrx. I used to have 18's on it but hit a pothole popped 2 and cracked one. Used to have a k&n filter but the mafs crapped it self and was advised to go stock. I do have extractors and 2 1/2 inch exhaust.
Well for the last 8 months or more it has been not keeping steady speed. If that makes sense. I can drive for 5 min or 50 min before it does it, example. I drive 30 min down freeway 110km ph. Get off and try to stick at 60km and it looses power then kicks in again. It's like it needs to be under acceleration to stay steady. Mechanics can't find anything wrong.
I put new leads on today. Seems to have worked. Went on a 20 min drive and smooth.
Any other thoughts on what it could have been?
Any other mods anyone cares to suggest. I'm thinking a bigger snorkel on the air intake. From a 2005 model maybe.

Not the most experienced on here but I would think check plugs/ leads(done) 1st, then fuel filter then look at the more expensive things like O2 sensor & coil pack.

Good luck, let us know how it goes...

? I think you have answered your own question? New leads have fixed it haven't they ? Have seen one dicky lead on a V8 cause all sorts of misery - and the tacho went nuts. Could not understand it why 1/8 the leads cause the problems as have seen a nother V8 mid tune up started up with just one bank of leads connected- sounded odd but still idled :D

Dakuda must be stuck on the freeway somewhere?, either that or the problem is sorted and he's still driving

It hasn't missed a beat except once. I hit the brakes hard then it played up after woods. Other than that its been going pretty good. I want to put new plugs in next week

Has anyone ever put an air intake from a newer model on? The bigger snorkel part. To suck more air in?

The engine will only ever be able to suck in a set amount of air without forced induction.

Factory snorkels etc are usually the best setup you can go for in this day and age - car makers have to get the best out of the engine for power and economy in a mass production setup. Every little bit counts.

I doubt you'll get much more from another air intake.

My 5c anyway.

Cheers
