ECU's of L Series and Vortex

OK. As I played with my GLTA I learnt the differences between the 3 plug and 4 plug ECUs and thought::

the three pluggers were flapper afm and a dizzy with internal mech advance and vac advance on the outside, separate knock sensor control on the turbos.
The dizzy contains a four pin spark module - so 85.86 builds

Four plugger ECU had hot wire afm and the other dizzy with no guts, no vac can, with spark control coming from ECU including knock if it was turbo. so , 87 through to 89 builds

Just pulled out the ECU from my 4.86 made , 3.87 complied Vortex EA82T that is likely to have had flapper AFM, has gutless dizzy so expected a four plug ECU - wouldn't you all I ask ?? Gutless dizzy ?? My arse  !! It has the four pin electronic ignition module in it, with a vacuum can which must be vac advance boost retard - so spares for my GLTA - a comforting thought :) Even the ECU number rang a bell

The dizzy ends in 063 and is the D4R49 as already listed up in here: showthread.php?t=23050&highlight=series+dizzys

>>should be blind bastard emoticon >>

Bleeding three plug ECU so must be a separate knock sensor control somewhere under dash ! I'll find it somewhere. Means I can do a turbo Brumby and keep my GLTA :D

EDIT : Turbo Vortex , hot wire, 4 plug ECU from tambox details: 34 is the number on it, part 22611 AA550, model A11-000-R41, suspect was green one wire knock sensor.

Turbo Vortex manual 5 speed , flapper ? AFM, 4.86 make date, 3 plug T is the big letter (no number like tambox 34) ) 22611AA063, A11-00973,6326, uses white two pin knock sensor, separate knock sensor control box, internal ignition module in dizzy and vac advance/boost retard

The brackets are Vort specific with a longer one than std sedan

Has a big letter T on its label also !!

All you Vortex owners, time to contribute, just need you to crick your neck in the boot under the parclel shelf, detailing part number , afm and dizzy type, year made etc.You can keep the colour of yer undies to yerselves :D

Will have another dizzy number to add to my dizzy numbers post

I have a long armed ECU from a vortex, year?
It was from a hotwire, gutless dizzy.

Hey Steptoe,

Sorry to go slightly OT here, but was peeping at my XT's ECU the other day and failed to find the smaller black connector that Im meant to use to check codes and such. As its an 1986 Im pretty sure its a 3 plug ecu. Could you shed some light on that for me?

Regards

Doug

Not trying to be a smart arse but are you looking under the rear parcel shelf?

There is from factory both the green and black connectors right next to the ECU. If they have never been used, you might find them taped up with a small piece of green tape.

Jonno did not even look at this part of the Vortwreck just balanced guts on boot lip, leaned in, unplugged three plugs, undid nuts and was outta there. I will have a look - think I should take the wiring loom out to - just for hoarder sickness :)

Fella's

Yeah I found the ECU fine, can see the green plug clearly, but fail to see the little black one.

Does anyone have a pic of the ecu showing the connectors just incase Im having a "Dolt" moment?

Regards

Doug

There will be a green plug and socket and a black plug and socket = 4 connectors.
The pretty well look the same Black female, Green female, Black male, Green male.
If you have only found one, dig deeper, they are all next to each other.
As mentioned before, they can be taped up.
