I just checked my manual and it says you have to drain the cooling system to remove the water pump, bummer. looks like l might have to leave my suby at the mechanics a few days while waiting for the correct water pump to arrive once measured, or just forget about getting a new pump, my suby has hardly used any water in 7 years. Any thoughts?

how many km has the car done?
its advisable to get the water pump done when the timing belt is changed. Chances are, it will let go.

ain't broke, don't fix it ? Unless you have good reason to replace it - peace of mind, overheating issues not resolved, going on a big trip ??

My thoughts would be do the water pump plus idler tensioner as most of the expense is gettint to them which is already done doing the timing belts anyway. Result, not much extra expense for a lot more peace of mind & reliability...
