Brumby Bonnet Hinge

I have had a wonky bonnet ever since I have had this car. I took it all apart to find the passenger side hinge severely deformed. It seems as though the hinge jammed in the down position (lack of maintenance!) and someone has had to break the welds and the hinge to get it to go up...

That was after some panel beating. The bolt through the hinge snapped in half a long time ago and it's half rusted away now. Has anyone repaired a hinge like this before? Can you get up to the underside of the hinge to bolt it back (through the guards?) on or does it need to be welded? And if anyone has a wreck they could cut this hinge out of I would be interested. Would an L series hinge fit? Thanks

Mine had the same problem, same side too. It wasn't as far gone as yours. When looking at it I considered using some self drilling metal screws to re attach the hinge. I ended up welding it back on, but I think the screws would work. The hinge on mine just needed freeing up a bit & it's all fine now. Dunno about l series hinge, be patient someone will answer that for you soon enough.

From memory is not easy to get in behind there, I'd be cleaning that up, do the usual rust treament & weld it back on ... Get another from the wreckers ? Not sure about L series hinge though, it be slightly different I think. See Here ...

That is the problem when you make such reliable cars people forget to exercise the bonnet hinges :D Sorry, not of any help to you

The L series hinge won't work, completely different design!

It seems that this is an issue with many MY's - Sunnie the Brumby has a dodgy weld job on the same hinge. I've got some surface rust to sort out there.

Looks like you're on the right track to fixing this properly.

Cheers

My whole passenger side hinge snapped off so I put two rivits and with a lot of time and frustration two bolts as well and it actually works better than when I got it. Hope this helps?

I had the same problem with my Brumby and I had to weld it back.
