Hi guys just wondering about an EA-81 and EA-82 did they ever come out to Australia in Carb , i.e not Injected ?
you might be able to tell what i'm thinking re my username , as the Carb version can be sidedraft turbo - don't want to deal with wiring and injection.
also the size is PERFECT for VW. i.e no cutting or modding , with Turbo fits perfect actually room to spare.

Welcome to the forum!
They are most common in carb form. But if you really want the best out of turbo performance from these engines you really can't go past the EA82T - wiring and all!
Or if you're after raw output, the EJ22 will do pretty much the same as the EA82T without a sweat IMO.

If you go ahead with it, I'm sure I won't be the only one to say that we'd be keen to see picks and progress of your project!

Carburettors and turbo's arent really made for each other, rarely will they give both fuel economy and driveability.
Unless there is a specific reason you want an EA82 with a turbo, and EJ20, EJ22 or EJ25 has more power and is a newer motor that will give you trouble free motoring.
I do wiring loom modifications, and I have a EJ25 for sale. I can supply the EJ25 with a loom that will only need to be connected to the battery via a fuse, plus a few other wires and then you will need an EFI fuel pump and thats it.
Where abouts in NSW are you?

To elaborate slightly on Bennie's comments.
The EA81 was not sold in Australia in any form other than carby. There was a turbo EA81 for markets like the US, but there are only a handful down under.
The EA82 was available in carb (common), MPFI (fairly common), and MPFI turbo (uncommon).

You sound like you have some info from outside Subaru circles and within VW - a side draught carbie turboed EA82 sounds interesting - have you any links to this concept?
Pics of your VW would also not go astray here.
jump intto search, set any date and maybe advanced and look at all posts by SCOOBIDOO who runs a BAJA ? with EA82T

Hi and Welcome BlackVW68,
What model VW do you have, as I doubt too many models would fit the EA82 in them
As others have mentioned, Most of the EA model engines came out carby in Aus. As for Turbo, they were all EFI, no factory carby with turbo.
The wiring on these models is very basic and can be cut down to the basics to make it work in a VW. You can use a VL commodore fuel pump and a return fuel line and away you go.
I agree with Jono, we need pics of the VeeDub

What kind of VW it is will probably affect your decision, as I'm pretty sure if you want to fit an EJ25 in the back of a Beetle you need to do some mods chassis and body wise. If you just want an EA81 carby then they are plentiful, (should be) cheap as chips and incredibly simple. Plus there's a few simple mods to boost their output a bit.
