What more can go wrong ??

Ever had a day when you wished you had just stayed in bed and have that day written off, well its like that with my latest acquisition, a 1993 / 1994 L Series, why 1993 / 1994, well build date 1993 and VIN 1994.

Bought it from Perth end of Sept 2012 and since then it has had one drama after another, 1st the rear brakes went then the rear wheel bearings, so have replaced both front and rear wheel bearings and brakes, now the steering rack is R/S along with the ball joints and the front right C/V is making a lot of noise, the front struts need attention before the depart from the springs and to top it off the the muffler has decided to separate from the tail pipe, but hey other than that its running great.

would place a photo but have not been able to work out to upload pics in a forum, have plenty of pics in my profile from my 4 Subi's.

Any help / advice on getting a new / reconditioned steering rack for an 1993 EA82 manual would be appreciated, live in Kalbarri so fairly limited in getting to Perth regularly.

Cheers

Hey Wayne - I will be going to Perth first week or 2 of January - can bring a rack back if you can source one and can wait that long ? You will have to pick it up from me in Geraldton though !!

I am coming home(kalbarri) for Christmas so I can bring back pretty much anything you need... Ask Guyph01 about L-Series parts.. he has heaps :)
I'd get new KYB shocks if you need them, about $100 each..
A steering rack, I'd see what Guy has otherwise a used one from a wreckers with good boot on it would do..

Do you need a hand to fit it?

Hey man, everyone on this forum feels ya!

Look at the upsides...parts are cheap, easy to work on, and once you replace the the bits that keep the car on the road, they will be ok for another 100K+ Kms.

And offers to help supply and fit parts in WA - that has to be an upside!!

It does get to you when it all happens at the same time - part of the 'joy' of a 20 year old car.

Hey guys thanks for all the offers of help and support.

Yeah tying to source a rack is my main priority, any one know how compatible racks are in the 90's L Series ???.

KYB shocks are the only way to go, the guy before me put King Springs all round but neglected to replace the front shocks, been looking on Ebay and found a pair for $450 (seems reasonable).

The C.V's are no prob as our local mechanic is on to them @ around $150 each.

And the Exhaust I can get done in Geraldton @ Williams Mufflers, the guys there are always happy to customize a system for me.

I know a 20 y/o car does need attention, did look at a few next gens, but just love the shape of the L Series and the looks you get when you offer to snatch Cruisers and Patrols out of a bog (priceless).

Hey if you guys make it up to Kalbarri, be sure to look me up at Kalbarri Sports and Dive and say gday, if ur into Fishing I would be more than happy to show you around, hey Taza do ur folks live in Kalb (Terry and Liz ???).

Na Peter and Rowena. Dad recently left to go work up north though...

If you want me to bring anything from Perth I'm happy to so just let me know.. it's no trouble.

$150 for the CV's is a good price!

Bugger about the bugs mate, but once you've worked through them, then found others along the way you'll have a sweet ride for some km's to come as Sven2 has already said!

As for your steering rack - power steering or not? And what exactly is wrong with it? You can get new rack ends for them if there's some free play there, but if it's something to do with the rack and pinion itself then I don't think there's much you can do other than replace it.

Best of luck, looks like you've got a great support network at this time of year!

Cheers

This is not definite.. I'm waiting to hear back before I'm 100% sure we are going.

Plans changed when people wouldn't respond to posts :( and my daughter (and boyfriend) were coming until work needs her to stay because apparently this is a very busy time for them. I am not keen on driving across the nullarbor by myself.

I am keen to go another time when others are more comfortable to join.

WayneO, I might be able to help out with a rack. Just call or PM me. Cheers, Paul
