Hey I have just started stripping one ofmy Brumbys and suddenly realised it has factory AC:)

Is it worth saving and trying to sell it or should it just go to scrap with the rest of the car ?

Save it and pass it on to a member that's after an MY air conditioning setup. I know I'd be keen for it if I had a vehicle to put it into, but at the same time wouldn't want to be paying the earth for it

These are the sorts of bits that need to be kept "in circulation".

To keep the kit whole you'll need:

Crank pulley, and the bracket for the compressor,
The usual pipes/compressor/dryer/expander etc etc
Glove box insert (smaller for the AC equipt MY),
Wiring and switch, labelled if possible.
And I'm sure there's something I'm missing - possibly the passenger's kick panel/shelf.

Ah yes! And the relays on the driver's strut tower, the idle speed diaphragm that's mounted beside the carby on the driver's side.

Is it all there and working? I'd be very keen to buy it rather than see it go to scrap. Although freight to SA and your time to remove it might be a problem Bennie do you know much about the wiring that goes with this? Would it be a simple loom that plugs into a vacant socket on the car loom? Or more like an integral part of the factory loom with much cutting, head scratching and soldering required.

Yeah it's plug and play. The wiring I had with my conversion had been tampered with so it would drain the battery when the ignition was in the off position and the fan switch was on at some speed. I had to put a relay in the system to only work with the ignition in the ON position

You'll love it, and it's a decent bit of fun to put it in, not in a bad "fun" either

From memory, which isn't very reliable, the loom adds on to the normal loom, most of it is plugs, except there was some cutting and joining around the fan switch.
There are a couple of different looms available, but they are similar and easy to work out.

Yeah Giles was chasing me for it ages ago but I wasn't sure what I was going to be doing with it then. Has Paul sent that package off yet do you know ?

Yes it is all there - don't know about the working condition of it though because I have never had the car going.

I have to pull the car apart anyway to cut the chassis rails out so it will be removed tomorrow (hopefully)

So what sort ofmoney do these normally go for ?

There is a 20A fuse with white wiring and relay under the dash somewhere near the steering column too. They can go for a couple of hundred dollars and they work quite well in the Brumby - something that should be saved from the scrap man. Also the glove box is smaller then the standard unit and should be included in the 'kit'.

Pretty straight forward to install, i got the instructions off someone on this board (Giles?) and it's awesome, well worth the money and effort.

Is that couple hundred dollar relay part of the A/C? Might have just bumped the price up a bit And you say a standard glove box won't fit with the A/C installed?

Probs not as you have the heater core and fans in the dash.

i meant for the complete A/C setup. I don't believe the standard glove box fits as the evaporator is much larger then the duct that connects the fan to the centre control box. Though there were different systems available throughout the MY years according to the company that regassed mine so maybe some will fit? I also think they were dealer fitted in Australia.

There are lines moulded into the glove box, cut it on these lines and fit the cover to suit the ac ducting.
Usually all you need is to unscrew/unclip the cover from the rear of the glovebox on the ac car, cut your glove box and fit the cover.

Don't cut your glovebox up until you need to - the Clarion unit in my 84 was a better unit leaving the glovebox free of the short sheet trick

OK pulled it all out

GLovebox looks exactly the same as my other one which I'm pretty sure wasn't AC'd.

Here is everything I think that is needed - anybody see anything missing ?









After seeing how much is needed and how much effort it took to pull out I would think $200 would be a minimum price !! Might put it on ebay if they are sought after that much ?

Not if they don't work - I'd say it looks a bit worse for wear with all the rusted / corroded bits, so would have to question whether it still all works ?

Put it on Gumtree ( It's Free ) that is you don't get any offers from here first - Then suck it & see if you get any nibbles ...
