hi,
just wondering if the Tribeca AWD system is the same as other Subaru's?

i watched a review on youtube (from the USA) of it and the description of the AWD system sounded more like an Xtrail sort of system instead of the Subaru style.

I may be wrong - any ideas?

Do Subaru's use a central diff?

I'm sure it's the same as the usual subaru auto system...

They don't come in a manual. But if I ever got my hands on one... thoughts about that one!

Cheers

Same as any other modern day auto box subaru system. Shouldn't be any diff other than that is weighs double an L-Series!

Being a 6 cylinder model, it could have VTD as opposed to the more common MPT

VTD uses a centre diff with a biased ratio to give slightly more torque to the rear wheels (41/59 since 2004) with a lock-up clutch to vary its split between 41/59 open and 50/50 locked.

MPT has no centre diff, but a just a clutch to transmit power to the rear wheels (the fronts are permanently connected) and varies the torque split between 90/10 and 50/50

The Nissan X-Trail has a MPT setup like most Subaru auto models

Gannon is right. You have to be careful which gearbox oil youre putting in!
