Parting out my 1986 L RX Turbo .

Post by discopotato03 » Thu Nov 01, 2012 8:16 am

The path is drawn and Ellie is becoming a parts request concern .

I'm putting together a list of bits and am open to requests provided you don't live at the North Pole . Would prefer Sydney NSW/ACT buyers .
Must stay as a rolling shell for a little while so cant remove rear discs till I can find a pair of drums to hang wheels off .

The easy or removed bits so far .

Twin core radiator asking $300
One off 24mm and 22mm anti roll bars plus bushes brackets $100 ea .
Absolutely transform road handling .

Original 86 EA82T with near new belt and tensioners suit rebuild $100 .
Original 86 RX L DR Gearbox $200 . Littlle bit runchy into 2st when cold but warm ok .

Cat back exhaust , 3"cat into 2 1/2 system that works and IS quiet $100 .

Complete Turbo Vortex Spider inlet manifold assembly with injectors FPR rails etc . The top section has been flange adapted to take the early 85/86 TB/TPS so ideal to convert a flap AFM car . Also have the rare EGR pipe and TB to turbo outlet duct .
Also have another top section with a complete Spider Vortex backwards TB and TPS .
Asking $340 .

Coxy wants the custom rebuildable tailshaft so please don't ask .

Have a spare pair of the early orange front L blinkers , any reasonable offer .

Getting rid of this rolling shell is a drama so anyone that turned up with a trailer/float can have it for a token fee . Would solve a lot of problems for me .

The slightly more difficult things to remove are the headless engine and the gearbox .

Gearbox is a Hybrid Vortex AWD one with I think early gen Lib gearset and the L low low range gears . It has custom altered steady bar and gear selector rod . I have new nylon bushes for it too .
Has the exhaust mount too - basically all the fiddly stuff sorted out .

Engine was rebuilt properly and had new rings and late EFI NA cams in the heads . The heads were ported though one is cracked between the valve seats . All the usual belts tensioners bearing new water pump good oil pump etc . SUIC glued up my valves killing compression but these have been cleaned out and are available for inspection . I have a set of good HLAs that never tapped/rattled too .

You can make an offer on this engine if interested once the main section is out on the floor .

I have not worked out a price for the gearbox yet but I know they are in short supply and sought after - particularly with all the stuff that makes it a bolt in kit including the solenoids and their bracket , in a 4WD L Series anyway .
AWD makes a huge difference to a normally FrWD L and they should have all been this way from new .

I am a short way into working ten days straight so I won't have a lot of time each day to spend removing things just yet .

I can't have this car taking up a garrage forever and while its sad to have to do this it comes down to economics . I would have sold it complete as a running concern but the SUIC affair screwed me over , such is life .
I doubt anyones going to offer me $2000 to cart away every Subaru bit I own so it has to be bit by bit .

More as it unfolds , cheers A .

I'm keen on the two side rubber trim ant the bottom corner of the rear doors if they are available? Also the front grill and the cluster.

Could you post up some pics to see what you have?

Thx

So yeah, that gives the potential buyer 3 months to register it and only need a pink slip, I reckon someone will snap it up.
If not I will be interested in the short motor.

I'll take both the swaybars and the exhaust. Are the adjustable castor rods still available?

Guyph all I'll have time to do today is remove the swaybars and possibly the rear diff and shafts .
Never did find a way to post pics here and previous ones went via Gannon .
As I said very busy with the trains ATM which I work on at lots of odd hours .

I seem to have built a large collection of all sorts of odds and end like std turbo headers RX and Vortex , those three ring turbo front axle shafts etc .

I hope to get the exhaust off early next week but removing the radius rods at this stage means it cant be pushed around easily .

Will try and report more tomorrow evening , cheers A .

Ok , yesterday before swapping 6 cylinders for 16 I removed both sway bars , rear clutch LSD and axles , rear 2/3rds of exhaust .

Can the last poster interested in the twin core rad PM me his details .

With luck I'll get the front of the exhaust plus the stainless header and Garrett ball bearing turbocharger out .
Then trying for the short motor sans heads and then the gearbox and tailshaft .

Cheers A .

PS , does anyone in Sydney have a pair of rear drums cheap or free ? I need something to keep wheels on this car when I remove the rear discs/calipers/backing plates .
When I sell the rear disc set it will include spare discs and calipers plus my rear pads were near new .

After the Miata rear set up trials, Adrian shoved the old stuff back in. Adrian ! the rear coil springs if they are the correct RX ones, better pass them on to Gannon !

Think he has the Miata stuff ready for sale - to suit a Miata. What you want Gannon is the yellow paint daubed black painted original RX coils that sit about 285mm free and 10.5mm thick wire if Adrian has them back in the beast

Rear Disc's

Post by 555Ron » Sat Nov 10, 2012 7:15 pm

Hi Adrian,
I'd be interested in the rear disc setup. I have a set of spare drums you can have - but i'll only part with them if you sell me the disc setup  . If you are interested let me know when you want to get rid of them and how much you want. I'm in Newcastle and I'll be there at the drop of a hat to beat those other undeserving vulchers. ;) Cheers, Rhys.
