Brumby running issues.....

Hey guys,

My Brumby has been running great guns then the other day whilst taking off from the lights it would not excelerate. I took off then as i put my foot down nothing would happen. the motor was still running and the car still moving forward but it wouldnt then would chug and surge forward then slowly start excelerating. I went over a speed bump and it went back to normal. It did it again today for a short time and went back to normal.

The fuel pump has been loud recently as well. Would it be a blockage? Or dirty fuel or something else?

It has been running a little rough on idle now and then as well, anyone got any ideas?

Would definitely check your fuel pump and BOTH fuel filters.

did it also begin with a bump ?

could be fuel or electrical

could be crud in the carby float bowl, or filters or pump on its way out

could be loose battery terminal clamps, connections or even the fusible link

a question no one seems to ask of MY and L series owners that come up with problems - when was the last time you had it serviced ? as it seems many cars this age are not put in for regular and comprehensive service by trained dudes , just a need it fixed now routine as things pop up .

guilty here except for oil changes :D

fuel idle soleniod as apposed to the fuel cut relay :) ???

It lives on the side of the carby and for intensive purposes works... until it stops working. the easiest test to see if it is working is to have the ignition on start(but the engine not running) then unplug the connector for it and then reconnect it there will be an audible click as it opens.

Otherwise I would be checking every electrical connector under the bonnet and inside the car.

thanks guys. It was serviced with new fuel pump & new filters about 1500km ago but will still double check them. As the vehicle was sitting around doing nothing for nearly two years i drained the fuel tank etc when i replaced filters and the pump, and have recently run a injector/carby cleaner through as it was running a little rough.

I will step through all that has been mentioned and see how i go. Any idea how i can get a nice smooth idle?

There could also be crud in the fuel lines - some members have previously found that blowing compressed air through the lines front to rear results in a pile of crap coming out the other end - in the tank, which you then flush out too.

Or the carb needs a rebuild/clean out.

YOu can change the carby and still have a choppy idle, if there is something wrong with the electrical side of the engine as well.

How long ago were the plugs, leads, rotor button and cap serviced?

+1 on plugs, leads, rotor and cap; all of these once sent me nearly insane with the idling problems I once had even though the leads were nearly new...one had an internal break.

Plugs done with everything else about 1500km ago. The leads etc havent been looked at yet. Sounds like i need to give the carby a good clean, then if that doesnt fix it then new leads etc and see how i go from there. :D

thanks for the help guys. will let you know how i go.
