buying a subaru liberty with over 200ks?

Post by agexx » Sun Sep 30, 2012 8:42 pm

hey, im currently looking to buy my first car, and ive got my eyes set on this 2004 Subaru Liberty 4GEN MY05 AWD.

just wondering if liberty's with over 200k kms are still in good condition.

this owner has had the car for 5 years and has 'never let him down'. he's lowered it and tinted the windows. he's selling due to company car. he always fills up with Preamium98 and had a major service done at 200k kms.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

Copy and paste from what I just posted in a similar thread...

On the kms thing, Ive had my 01 Outback since 174000kms on it and it now has 249807kms and apart from the 200000km major service and an oxygen sensor, hasn't cost me a thing, but the engine is a little rattly for about a minute after startup, and the auto transmission is getting a little doughy, but so far, its still very reliable.

More info on the motor? They're all pretty good, just normal car things so long as it's been looked after properly.

VERY important!!!
You don't need to run it on 98, 95 is all that is required unless you have a wrx STi.
Being a company car ha probably got a tax deduction off petrol and could therefor justify spending the extra 20 or so cents per liter.
As long as it has been looked after properly and you look after it properly it should be good.
Oil and coolant every 5,000km. Makes all the differance to every 10,000km.

Coolant every 5000km is just silly. A pedantic person would change the oil every 5-7500km but 10 000km is ok.

Also the 6cylinder and the GT must run on premium unleaded.

The main thing is it's had it's 200k service so nothing major till 300k, in all honesty it sounds like it's been well looked after, provided there are no obvious rattles and everything works you have nothing to worry about, many Subi's out there with over 400k on them.

I'd keep using 98, generally pans out similar in price as the car should get better economy and a slight increase in performance.

If you are going to keep it lowered etc I'd be joining RSLC, great Aus wide forum and heaps of help when needed, possibility the previous owner was on there if he's an enthusiast.

If you are buying it for the tint and lowered - does it ned to be inspectd to change ownership and is the inspector going to tell you it is too low and too dark. If you need a change of ownership inspection for vicroads, maybe book it in, take it through, pay the reasonable inspection fee, see if any other issue is raised before you agree to buy at whatever price ?
