EA82 L Series and their crazy tappet noise ...

OK, I understand they are expensive to buy new ones @ 25 to 50 bucks each or $7 reco's from mizpah. It is not one of the easiest services to do or pay someone to do - usually starts with a black crud caked high miler for starters.

BUT just how long do these babies keep on keeping on until they collapse from no love ?

I mean, I hear them coming in the traffic, had them behind me and it irritates the bejeesus outta me! How does the owner put up with the clatter ? Doesn't it hurt their ears and the vibes bug them too ? I'd be too worried it would let me down at the most inconvenient time and place.

Are they just relegated to being town cars/ second cars or are these well served deprived chaff cutters doing interstate travel as well ??

If only the EA82 had some sort of side plate like a Holden straight six to leak oil at times, just to make replacement easier!

They'll keep on keeping on. Even though they're tapping away that's all they can do. I believe the tapping is the lifter plunger or piston bottoming out against the spring. Not much you can do about the ticking after you've tried all the different methods of ridding that issue!

It won't let you down, but the cam belt can at just about any time! It annoyed me to no end. Then I went EJ and forgot about lifter tick until we put that same engine in my sister's car - now she's living with it :p But it's not as bad as it was for the two weeks (exactly) where every lifter went noisy!

Still wouldn't work - you have to lift the cam to get the lifters out of the holes they live in. Solid adjustable lifters with these side plate (top plate) setups would be much better IMO. But the cam would also need to be a solid lifter profile...

EJ has so far been THE best fix for lifter tick, even though I'm getting the odd lifter tick on start up since cooking her a while ago :???:

Cheers

Wooah!!!
Welcome!
Any head gaskets or new engines in that time?
Hopefully mine will do that many km's.

Cheers Cam
