Death of my Gen2Lib? Advice Wanted

In a stupid moment I drove onto the back of a Hilux with a beefy towbar mount. Upside is no damage to hilux, downside is ~$2.5k to repair my Lib which has rego due, 255000ks on it and needs a new clutch + some oil leaks looked at.
I've had it for ~2.5yrs and 60000km and spent some $$ replacing the shocks, springs & bushes & sorting out the random stuff that goes with cars of this mileage. It's been nice but next time I would defn go for softer (and dearer) rubber bushes on an old car (seemed to bring on the rattles). It's off the road at the moment at my mechanics as one of the fan mounts punctured the timing belt cover.
I'm now a mature age student and sadly broke (likely for the next 3yrs). I have about $3k aside for repairs or whatever happens next (Goget?)
Questions are:
*Should I look around for a 2nd Gen Outback? (98-03) I know the EJ25's had bad rep for head gasket probs and the EJ22's are called bulletproof by some. I've seen a few under 200000km for $5-8k.
* Should I be looking for another Gen2 Lib which would be cheaper but prob harder to find with lower ks? As I can't work on the car myself it's hard to know how much of the good stuff could be swapped over cost effectively. In terms of vanity I think the Gen2 Libs are better looking but obs Outback a bit better off road & can fit tougher tyres.
* What's the best way to get the most $$ I can out of probably dying Gen2 wagon?
NB I'm only interested in manual wagons.
My lib and I have been to a lot of nice places and it's depressing to contemplate life without a car for the foreseeable.
Thanks for your thoughts.
