Imagine if ...... Subaru announced due to the longevity and versatility of the Subaru ute known as the Brumby/BRAT or MV1800 being remembered by so many it is good for the brand they are going to reman each and every one for free with the latest FB20 and AWD centre diff lockable, disc brake rear end, AC, PS and engineered to ensure the relaibilty and fondness lives on for many years to come

Would you be a taker or prefer to stay EA81 with just a few mods ?

I don't know that I'd go with the FB series engine. Maybe a diesel dual range manual (with an even better low range) or a H6 dual range version That'd be like the 70's - small cars, big power plants, kind of like the early toranas and cortinas

I'd be keen depending on the styling of the package - it'd need some ruggedness without the plastic bits and a decent amount of ground clearance. And it'd need to still have that fat B or C pillar (dunno what it's called on a ute!) too with close references to the original brumbys. Last thing is that it would need to be smaller than the latest and last series of imprezas, that's most of the bonus of a subaru

i would sure take up the offer. although i would tell subaru they are better off making a new brumby!

Things came to mind of some cult cars that have been through a remanufactured process - never at the original makers expense though. The only one I can think of so far is the Datsun Z series where some specialised enthusiats buy them or take them in and rebuild almost everything as required, reassemble and owner parts with 40 to 60 grand.

The Brumby is heading towards cult status, almost everyone remembers them fondly or the go for ever impression people get of them - rugged and reliable. Most identify them with Subaru.
Now, wouldn't it be a good thing for Subaru to ensure the Brumby remains on the road , reliably for many more years to come to continue to remind consumers of Subaru when it comes to buying their next new car.

We know the newer stuff fits... so how about Subaru take them back and bring 'em back with EJ's then- with an ECU wired up like an old Rodeo V6 sitting right on engine reducing wire ups through the firewall. Just a new compliance plate to avoid engineer certifications.

I actually think they could base one on the new XV because lets face it, a Subaru is never gonna be able to compete with larger utes like Commodores because of limited payload and towing capacity. But an XV based runabout ute with the same mechanical configuration as the XV
