hey guys,
basically im going to sell off my gen3 outback and upgrade to something newer.
The new car must be big enough for a baby seat, pram and other baby stuff, no probably not a forester or impreza.
Im leaning towards about an 05-08 model H6 3.0l outback R.
id also prefer something i can easily cruise down the beach in, or do minor gravel roads so abit of ground clearance would be nice.
I have about 20k to play with.
cut lose and give sum advice, options and ideas!
cheers
alex

You wouldn't be taking the Lib offroad. Yes I do think you would regret a 2.0l, the H6 OB is a good option in my opinion.

Id deffinately go a later 4Gen OB 3.0L. The best looking car subaru has ever made so far.

And go alright offroad even stock.

We have an 08 lib wagon, virtually the same as the one shown.
Yeah does offroad fine (gravel dirt roads) but defiantly lacks ground clearance. When taking off in the right situation mum almost always bottoms out.
Back seats are fine for baby gear but if your over 6 foot leg room is an issue. Boot has plenty of room, can almost always pull the cargo blind over when on a family holiday.
Ours is 2.5 liter five-speed, engine is fine but would like a 6th gear. great car to drive.
If you want more info just ask.
Cheers Cam

i wouldnt get the 2.0l liberty. ive driven the 2.5l liberty same year and is the best car i have driven! i love it. BUT wouldnt go offorad, gravel road yes- can do it in any car. but not offroad VERY low. i would imagine the 4th gen outback 2.5l would be great, i would assume virtually the same to drive as the liberty but with ground clearance. i would opt for the 2.5 over the 3.0 due to fuel economy, and the 2.5 liberty i drove feelt very sporty, even feels faster then my 2.5l foz which were both auto

thanks for the comments so far guys
my dad has a gen4 3.0RB liberty and averages under 10l/100km which isnt too bad at all.
im widening my scope abit, looking at audi A4 wagons and also (which im leaning heavily against at the moment) a 2006 volkswagen passat wagon. Theres something about german cars i just love!

If it Subaru, then the Gen IV is a nice...but, the Passat Wagon is a very nice vehicle indeed. More refined. And absolute killer value too (i.e. much better as the second owner from a depreciation viewpoint)

Didn't say they were cheap, said they were great value.
Agree that some European cars will cost - but so does a diesel Outback with all the issues some members are experiencing presently (fortunately under warranty...for now), not to mention early EJ20Gs and 25s

Cool, I think higher end subarus are almost on par with German cars. My mum and dad have an audi quattro 2009 A4 s-line and a gen4 liberty RB. I do prefer the subarus interior but the audi is just tight.
I'm going to take a 06 passat wagon with the 3.2l v6 184kw 330nm DSG 4 motion FSI AWD for a drive tomorrow and see how it goes. Impressive I've heard.

Clearly you haven't seen Alex's liberty...
Either way Alex, you've got to look after your family's best interests. So if your better half like the luxury of the audi over the subaru and both vehicles are on your short list I think you know where to go with this. Especially if it's not your daily drive
Cheers

yeh im leaning very heavily against the VW at the moment.
i cant really find any faults about this car on the internet so i think im making a pretty good choice with it.
oh and theyre super wanky, the standard features list is astounding.
