My brother in law bought a Brumby with a canopy, and sold the canopy to a guy up the road with a Brumby but apparently it doesnt fit properly, the guy he sold it to reckons that some Brumbies had a different profile in the curve from the tray sides to the roof. We think he is imagining it.

Have you ever heard of it?

Depends on how it fits. My canopy - a Challenge unit - doesn't fit flush all the way around but sits like a hat over part of the roof and the back pillar, then tapers to fit the top of the tray.

Some canopy's fit flush all the way around (look at the US GEM top as an example). Others fit flush except they overlap the roof only.

There was also a difference between a Brumby sold with the clip-over tarp clips and one sold without the tarp (no clips along side of panels). Whether this had a different sheetmetal press tool is possible...

(I'm assuming both your brother in law and his neighbour are gen 2 Brumby's).

the only difference that i am aware of with the gen2 brumbys was that the early (i think 82-83) ones had a rail with tie down hooks on it and no stainless strips whereas the later ones only had the stainless strips there may be a slight height difference here.
my experence with fitting these canopies is that they need pulling down tight and they sort of conformm to the shape of the car, just sitting it on may show gaps and make him believe that it will not fit
however...... i could be wrong.........

My canopy fits both 84 and 92 Brums - both GEN2 MY shape , nort the ugLY GEN1 Brumby. It sits about 100mm forward of the rear of the roof so sits on the roof paint . Bit nasty how the manufacturer expects the installer to drill through the rear side stainless trim and bolt hold from inside the panel.

He may well have a vivid imagination

Gannon, isn't it you always asking for photos? You have done a good job in the past posting up pics. We need pics here too please. Bloody canopies are floppy, flex a bit and may need some encouragement to sit still while securing.....

I'm going to agree with the others and say it's the difference between the chrome moulding type and the rolled lip type tray area. Other than that, I think it's the way he's fitting it. Pics are a must

I havent been back there since I last posted, but by looking at the rub marks on the Brumby the canopy came from, they are all the same and this guy was just being fussy cos it isnt really a good fit

bit like boobs - no structural support and sides flop about - like most can o pees
