Hi all , just curious to know if we got the classic or first generation Impreza 2.5RS in Australia . Been hearing stories of 2.2s in Brumbys and how torquey they feel . I think nowdays that if I was ever going to have a GC8 style Impreza the go would be with a factory fitted EJ25 .
I can't remember ever seeing a 2.5RS so they must be uncommon or non existent .

Facts ?

Cheers A .

Nah we didn't get the 2.5 Impreza until the GD revB (peanut/blob style headlihght)

America was the only country to get the 2.5 GC because they didnt get a Wrx until the GD model in 2002. They were also locally built in the Subaru/Isuzu factory in Indiana.

Bummer . Coxy tells me there was a 2L AWD RX version and I suppose they wouldn't be too bad for a runabout . Ahh , whats the difference between an EJ20 and EJ22 rod and piston wise BTW ?

Thanks , I did go searching and found that the bore size and big end size was the difference - in the early ones anyway .
There was some mention of the EJ22 turbo engines having closed deck cases too , but that was an engine option we didn't get .
I also read that EJ25s in Imprezas changed over the years and the power climbed I think with different pistons and two stages of increasing compression ratio , was it 9.5 9.7 and 10 to 1 ? Anyway probably not cost effective to make a 2.2 or 2.5RS for a daily , just would have been good if a factory sorted one was available .
I can't hack the later Imprezas , too big heavy ugly and riddled with electronic BS .
It urks me to say that WRXs are as common as grass seeds but just once I'd like to trade the dryer for a few more cubes and I don't want to have to build it . A late 90s EJ22/25 in SOHC form would be reasonably easy to live with and go well enough .

Such is life , A .

I have just purchased a 1993 Impreza hatch for the purposes of a 2.2 transplant... Although I always have too many projects on the go, so not sure how long it will take!

My problem with later Imprezas is the size! Too large, especially the 2012 edition.

With the size comes a 5 star crash worthiness rating I suppose...
