Finally got the 300ZX alternator under Ellies lid this afternoon with Coxys help and finds an adjustable strut top extending upwards in a bad way .
I'm using from memory Noltec ones off a Forrester GT and the drivers side one is pushing the encapsulated bearing section out through the top of the sliding sections turret .
I'd be VERY interested if someone could sell me one of these but usually they come in pairs so if anyone has some they're no longer using let me know .

Alternator wise its pretty good , Coxy manage to make me a plug in adapter so it can be switched back to standard easily . I got the Hitachi alternators native plug and he fitted the female half of the plug that goes into the back of the standard alternator to it . Actually the std alternators plug and terminals were pretty grungy so they were renewed too .
He stuck the multimeter on the battery terminals and the voltage does not drop from ~ 14.1 with the headlights (high beam) on or off .

Adequate is the term he uses , cheers A .
