Gen 2 liberty thinking of buying...any opinions greatly appreciated!

Hey Guys, newbie here so apologies if I have posted in the wrong section?
Was just after some advice on a Gen2 1999 Liberty I am thinking of buying off a mates mum.
It is a Gen2 99 RX 2.5L automatic (auto, sucks I know). Has leather interior also. Got a VS commodore at the moment, so anything is an upgrade
Has 220,000 on the clock. Taken it for a drive and drives nicely. I could probably pick it up for around 3k.
A few things I am worried about:
- Needs timing belt replaced (Not that bad, stepdad is a mechanic so can get that done cheap)
- Shifts hard from 1st to 2nd when taking off? Googled a bit but couldn't find much? Would this more likely be worn transmission, or maybe throttle sensor or solenoid?
- Paint is pretty scratched - its that dark blue colour so stands out!
- Engine management light comes on occasionally - apparently subaru said that it is just a sensor that needn't be worried about at the moment?
Any advice/thoughts on these problems and whether its worth picking up would be much appreciate!
Thanks in advance!
Corey
