Getting 89 Brum ready for retirement
Getting 89 Brum ready for retirement
Bought this one for parts and farm ute on a mates farm.
Fixed the drive to the front today, thanks for the help fellas.
She has a water using issue which may be a blocked radaitor.
I will fix a few things raid a few parts and send her out to pasture, where she will get driven around the farm by my 3 and 6 year old kiddies with my help of course.
This one is not going to the wreckers or metal recyclers.
List to fix.
degrease engine
set ignition timing
Radaitor
oil change
flush the brake fluid
broken seat rail
Rear shockies are RS but that don't matter
Oh and put old tyres and rims on it.
Will blast and paint the rims on it at a later date.
then just raid her for parts

G'Day Alan. Nah she is rusty.
It has been around Australia behind an orange bus. second motor.
There is a big dint in one of the headers and it would be restricting the exhaust real bad. (something elese to do)
Just partialy degresed the engine bay.
gave it an oil flush, new oil and filter. (engine is much quieter now but I will do the valve clearances tomorrow)
There are a few things on this one that are in better nick than red brum so I will probably start swaping them over tomorrow.
This is so much fun.

Sad to see them go to pasture but all good cars have their day. They are the perfect farm vehicle, my wife's cousins have a farm in Narrikup WA and they had 3 of them at one stage.. they were upset when Subaru stopped selling them.
You know you are getting old when the candles on your birthday cake start to cost more than the cake itself.

Pasture is better than crusher.
Well she go some TLC today.
Fixed the broken seat bracked.
knocked the dint out of the exhaust.
Done the valve clearances.
Fitted a back rocker cover. (one was green)
Swapped the realy good seat belts and clips form this one to my red one as the red one had old seat belts.
Put old wheels and tyres on it.
cleaned, inspected and adjusted the drum brakes.
Fitted another electric choke. (Starts easy cold now)
Checked ignition timing.
Hopfully fixed some oil leaks, 1 rocker cover, wrong bolt fitted to oil filler so fitted a shorter one so it pulls the flange down tight.
Tightened the carbie screws, there is one other secrew to check but I have to remove the carb to do it. (maybe later)
The old oil shockies were shot. Managed to pick up a a second hand set of gas shockies and fitted them to. (no more bouncy bum Brum)
Went for a quick blat around the block. She has got some morr grunt now and has got back that soobie growl.
Oll mate that I bought it from reckons it was pretty tyred. I am not supprised he thought that cause the valve clearances were twice the maximum, poor ol thing it couldn't breath and I reckon it leaked more oil than it used.
What a day and it was fun. Fun in the sun with soobie.

LOL "Go the Brumby"
Put a good second hand radiator in it yesterday cause it was using water and suspected a blocked radaitor, from a Brum I wrecked a while ago. Went for quck spin up the Hwy and back @110kmh. Didn't seem to use any water so hopefully the problem is fixed.
She starts pinging @ 4K and blowing black smoke. I reckon she hasen't had the cobwebs blown out for some time and I bet it has the cheepest fuel in the tank so i filled her up with some 98 and will go for another blat later.
She now has a standard Brum one piece front bumper fitted.
Old red bonnet, grill and right front guard from by Red Brum. (patch work bush bashin Brumby)
Have taken the trimmings off the rear.
the tow bar is better than the one on my brum so a swap is in order.
Badges have been removed.
