FOUND two Vortices in a chook shed!

Post by steptoe » Fri Dec 23, 2011 8:15 am

Wel, actually it was a stable to begin with but the nearest thing to an animal in the shed now are chooks.

I'd heard about this fella with a passion for Holdens or Fords who suddenly started driving a Vortex and declaring his new passion.
Heard more that he had two or three amongst his 36 cars.
I'd done a bit of reconnisance trips in the countryside hoping to spot so many cars from the road, but no luck.

I finally got around to asking someone who knew the guy, got his number and gave him a call. Also managed to get meself an immediate invite to check them out. Of his 3 dozen cars just four or five were in the shed, absolutely covered in chook shed dust - five years worth of it!

Under a bucket of dust (each) were two first gen FWD NA Vortices.
No, they are not for sale or parting - they are his retirement projects.

At least I have found someone who will take on another Vortex if it comes up for sale (not like the last one that went real quick to Grant 87racevortex) with plenty of room to hoard them :)
He is of the older age group of us, not yet computer savvy, old school and not understand EFI diagnostics and has a problem, so I am gonna try and help him with so at least he can make an attempt to update the 2007 rego expiry label date!

It has an intermiitent miss, comes and goes, reminiscent of my weak valve spring eh ? but given he builds/built engines for a living/lifetime it had better not be the cause.

Initially he blamed the ECU so it came out, went off for a fix and $600 later car was no different.

Next to blame is the dizzy or injector wiring hence the other Vort for parts, and would you believe, he was chasing another Vort that is still, or was still in Just Cars, even though sold in Vic and went to QLD sometime back.

Thinking may be corrosion verdigris crap in wiring.

Maybe some pics later with his permission :)

Wow, a car hoarder... people have "uncovered" genuine Shelby Cobras in places like that! No GTHOs or Monaros? lol

Great story Jonno.. we want pics or it never happened :p

Love seeing those pics of the old shed finds.. imagine how many in the US that haven't been found ?

Another "American Pickers" fan ? 7mate digital channel ?

Yep, there is a Monaro HKTG, but by Christ it is in a sorry state sitting out there, it is a little bit narrower and lower than as it left the factory and may have come up between a Mack and a Louisville and then gone under a trailer :D , just a stroshed shell is all i saw !
