99 forester GT luxury
as you all know the missus has been bitten by the subaru bug shes now found a 99 forester GT shes not fussed on year but wants that particular shape BUT she wants to know what their like driving wise and her current problem is her 02 2.0L mazda 626 is getting 480kms to a tank @ $70 a tank so she wants to know how much better the gt is on fuel my guess is being a EJ20T it cant be that bad but then i thought the same with her current car any help would be greatly appreciated.
depends on how she drives it.
remembering the foz is pretty much a steel block on wheels.
id expect 9-10l/100km if she drives it nicely. Wouldnt expect it to use more than 11l/100km though.

Well my 2001 Forester 2.0l N/A gets between 8-12L per 100km depending how I drive around town. But if I drive normal (changing gears around 3000rpm) then I usually get about 9L per 100km. Highway about 8-10 depending on how many people in the car, weight, trailer?, roof basket on?, etc...
So I would suspect the GT wouldn't be much worse unless you are planting your foot to the floor all the time.

Gees economy of scales - and developments over a few decades. Look at all our fuel figures of 1800 to 2500 cc flat fours turbs included. Think the best I got from EA81 petrol was 8.5 to 9 litre per hundred. Now regularly do 575km to 70 litres of LPG ~ 12.17 litres per hundred, about the 20% more rule applies. Look at the new Falcon XR6 which of course no more wagons (that is called a Territory) six speed auto straight gas claimed 12.5 litre per hundred, same HP (190? kW ) and more torque than a petrol motor
If you can afford the newer cars you get slightly better economy, f you can't aford or like the newies and go old you get old economy.
My turbo subes have retained same sort of economy as my non turbs - almost no matter how differently I drive them and no improve on the highway. Would think the Foz GT would be similar fuel use. I have seen a similar year Foz GT on vapour injection. Think the rebate is now worth $1250 a year for the first 25,000 each year.

i have a 99GT and i regularly get around 11L/100 mixed mainly city driving, and 9-10 country driving, but i normally drive short (4-10km) distances and i often like to accelerate firmly.......... so based on that i get closer to 12L/100 ...
hope it helps?
towing jumps up to 15-18L/100 on the highway, but thats with a heavy lump of fibreglass boat on my arse

Mate, ANYTHING is luxury over the stock L's seats. Never owned an L series for long distance driving??apg39 wrote:Those aren't Lux seats either Bennie, only normal model. Lux pack is leather seats.
And I don't like leather, my car gets very hot in summer and fabric seats have always been good to me so I'll stick with them.
Cheers

Hi,
I got a 99 GT Forester for my wife about 6 months ago. It's been great so far and she gets about 9-10L to 100k like most of the other posts are saying. It's super comfortable. The only thing I don't like is the cruise control is kind of jerky.
The good safety rating was also a factor when I bought my wifes - point of story = she loves it.
Cheers,
Ben
