Ok so my Brumby is registered as a 1991, always has, all the documents say 1991, Subaru agree. :p
In my engine bay rivited in place is a plate that says built date Oct 1990.
Parts wise these two cars are very different (it matters when ordering parts).
So is it a 1990 or 1991?

Cheers Cam

depends, which plate is it? mine has two plates, one on the passenger side and one on the vin plate. the vin plate should be the date it was complied as a vhicle, the other plate, if its similar to mine, is a thin black plate, which is the cars arrival into australia, mine is only 3 weeks apart so it doesnt make much of a difference.

Some states/maybe all states use the compliance plate date as the 'make date' for their uninformed paper jockeys. NSW RTA inspectors need to supply RTA with both make date and compliance plate date on application.

You are lucky you have both plates affixed.

Ordering parts genuine will not be a problem. Non gen parts books are often a balls up, insisting Brumbies had EA82 and that the timing belt kit you bought says suits EA82 Brumby ! Those of us in the know can laugh :D

Think a moment, to release the new 2012 models early in the year all tooling has to be made years before so the cars can be made in 2011 to be ready for January sales in 2012.

If the Brumby had changes coming up you would have a MY1991 but it was made in 1990. You have a little problem when ordering stuff? What stuff?

Some Brumbies are said to have 1994 compliance plate dates but manufactured in their last year 1992. Not sure where compliance plates are or were affixed now or then, whether it was at the docks, wholesaler or at the dealer ?

I would go by what the plate in the engine bay says near the vin or on the other side. So 8/1990 in your case.
I got caught out with my Forester thinking it was a 2002 but it was actually built on 8 or 9/2001. Although the car is an MY02 and paid the price of a 2002

Shouldn't be much differences in the 1990 to 1991 models.. I'd call Andy (aka Frog) and he'll get you sorted.
