I can bumble my way through most mechanical problems.
BUT I seriously need lessons on body work. Most of my cars die from terminal cancer.

This Subi had been resprayed a couple of years ago but now the cancer is starting to appear in all the usual places.

Tis all practice (i think) well thats how i lernt - to bog anyway sparypainting though is a different storey... heaps of practice and a good technique. If its taking a few year to return then you not doing to bad... omly minor tweeking required. Oh and you have to remember that we do live close to the coast and that salt.

Spraypainting is not the problem.
It is getting a good shape, no bubbles, & a nice feathered edge on the bog that is the problem.
The bigger holes that need a metal patch are beyond me. Maybe I need to get a mig welder & practice with it?

Away better to replace with metal if/where you can.

I had to learn how to do some body work this weekend.
I replaced the windscreen & found that there were a lot of rust holes around the windscreen seal. When I started grinding the rust away I continue onto the roof & found that the roof had been welded on at some stage.
The windscreen went in OK but now my red Suba has patches of cold galv grey & placky pink around it.
It looks like a major cleanup & respray coming up.
I said it was a rough vehicle but I think it is going to get much rougher before it gets better.

Hey Suba,
Someone needs to put something in the Tech Manual about windscreen replacements.
There are a number of things to look out for that aren't readily apparent. That includes the fact that many of these older Subarus will probably need Bog as well as urathane sealant to do the job properly.
You would have seen all the problems & know all the possible shortcuts, so would be a good person to do it.
What do you reckon?

Possibly a good idea ,Allthogh anyone in Perth would get a very good deal if I was to do it for them .
Will look at something along the lines you have said though.

If I wanted a first class job I would definatley have contacted you first.

Some people, myself included, are stubborn enough & often silly enough to try to do everything for themselves.

When I asked my mechanic the best way to go about it he said that he wouldn't even tackle it himself on his own car. He strongly suggested going to a professional fitter. Usually he tells me the best shortcuts for a job & sometimes suggests I use his hoist after hours.
