L Series Royale 4 door sedan ???

Post by steptoe » Fri Sep 02, 2011 12:10 am

OK. Have heard they were all EA82 mpfi here in Australia. Likely came out as a result of a Royal wedding at the time??

Were they any other special specs like auto only ....

I see one from time to time, always moving or wrong direction, but got close enough to see Royale script badge on the boot the other day. Metallic brow.... colour - looks great unwashed !!

Also sported an RX soft tail spoiler ...an option of the day?

Curious just to know a little more......

To my knowledge they are available in 3spd auto or 5 spd man FWD only. 1988 and 89 yrs. And yes MPFI with A/C, P/S, Central locking, fast glass, power mirrors, velour seats, carpeted floor lining and probably other stuff I've missed.
Much like the Touring wagons of same vintage - all the cream less 4WD and Turbo.
Test drove one Sundy before last. A lot wrong with it but so much potential.
Engine number didn't match rego papers! upon closer inspection this Royale had been transplanted with EA82T less the turbo!!! :???:
All the giveaway signs were there: Knock sensor, Heat shield underneath timing cover, Turbo oil feed line from Cyl head plugged and Turbo coolant feed and return lines suspiciously chopped and crimped off:o. That was my assessment without the luxury of a hoist;)
There were many other problems with it, none of which could'nt be properly fixed at reasonable expense.

Sounds like Royalty would buy with all those refinements. So a bit like a FWD NA version of the 4GLTA. Not too sure about a 7.7:1 comp ratio being for performance maybe good for running low grade fuel? I guess a turbo and engineers certificate....oh disc brake rear end??

Yeah I was thinking the same Steptoe about the comp ratio w/out the turbo. It started first crank and ran ok, but twas no power house;) Um Royales seem to have drum brake rears only (the ones I've looked at so far), I could be wrong.
Would be easy enough to get the rear drivetrain in a Royale!!

I have only even seen one Poyale and it is at the wreckers here in Bunbury it did have a flash interior once apon a time, an MPFI motor, drum rear brakes and front wheel drive.
